Ireland vs France rugby match twitter analysis
During the Ireland versus France RBS 6 nations rugby game a hash tag was used on twitter to mark everyone’s tweets about the match. The tag used was #merde (don’t blame me for that one..).
I did a bit of analysis on all the tweets, removed the hash tag and the @usernames and split the tweets into time segments. Then I plugged the text into Wordle to get a work cloud. I think the results are quite interesting to look at and they speak for themselves…

I like how the clouds get more frantic as the match goes on, leading to a flurry of c’mon/oshit/woohoo posts in the final ten minutes!
Great match and hopefully you can report on more successful matches in the next few weeks. And we’ll find out the welsh for merde.

Cool to see how the number of tweets increases as the game goes on. This hash tag is a great way to bring everyone together with a common interest, in this case kicking the French’s arse!

Thanks for all the generous comments folks!
Took a bit of work to do this one but worth it in the end. I’m going to work on making the process more automated for the next one…

Excellent analysis, captures the mood, like the different time segments, more expressive than my one on http://blog.mymunster.com/2009/02/09/a-twitter-word-cloud-the-6-nations/
