iphoneapps

Gizmodo have a great post today on the best an worst twitter apps for the iPhone.

I’ve yet to buy any paid apps from the iTunes store – to be honest every free app I have does the job – but I still am willing to pay for one if it really suits my purpose.

Essentially, Gizmodo’s final conclusion is:

The Quicklist
• Best Overall: Tweetie
• Best Paid: Tweetie
• Best Free: Twitterfon
• Most Powerful: Twittelator Pro
• Best Tweet-Only: Tweeter
• Worst Twitter App Ever in the History of Twitter Ever: Tweetion
• Creepiest: Twittervision

I’ve used 3 of the apps on their list – Twitterfon, Twitterific and Twinkle – and I have to say that Twitterfon is the best of the 3 by a mile. The cons mentioned are that it doesn’t support multiple accounts (I only have one) and the font is too small (move iPhone closer to your face! That means more content fits on the screen). It’s a fantastic app!

I actually find it more useful to read my tweets on the iPhone with it even when I’ve a computer right in front of me. Although with the fiddly iPhone keyboard I revert to the PC for tweeting a bit. I do use TweetDeck at home but not at work and that is the God of desktop twitter clients for me so the phone is left in the pocket there.

Twitterific lacked some features Twitterfon offers like search, view the current conversation and making it easy to select multiple people to reply to. As for Twinkle, the look of it just annoys me. Looks like it was made in the TellyTubbies factory. I’m not overally bothered checking for people geographically near me too.
